Who Are We

VOSIEDA envision a healthier, prosperous, better governed and more productive communities that are empowered to responsibly and sustainably care for nature and biodiversity for the long-term benefits of people and all life.

Our Origin:

Volunteers for Sustainable Development in Africa (VOSIEDA) is a network of volunteers and grassroot organizations working to protect the environment, end extreme poverty and empower communities beyond dependency and aid  in West Africa’s Mano River Basin including: Liberia, Guinea, Sierra Leone  and Republic of Côte d’Ivoire.

VOSIEDA is an incubator of grassroots innovators and the potential of a better future for local communities and people challenged by poverty and marginalization in West Africa’s Mano River Union. We are a leader in community-driven development. Our integrated approach focuses on systemic changes needed to improve people’s lives. For more than 18 years, we have worked to empower communities in Liberia and the Mano River Basin to become healthier, economically prosperous, socially inclusive, and productive.

We work like this  because we believed overcoming poverty and injustice from our communities cannot be left to acts of kindness. We must use others armaments such as empowerment, technology, social and environmental justice, human rights, good governance, etc.

We must now raise new questions, rid ourselves of traditional thinking, use innovation, creativity and possibilities to address old and deep-rooted poverty problems as a means of  creating a prosperous future.

Our Areas of Expertise

In our efforts to reduce poverty, we must first of all make small-scale agriculture sustainable. This means we must use land and water efficiently to reduce negative impact on the environment and ensure resilience to climate change.
